What's in the box is a fun guessing game for Halloween, birthday parties or family gatherings. Put safe natural or household objects in the boxes and let people guess by touch what they are! You can also use this for other events, such as Easter or Christmas - just adjust the items in the box. For example, a teddy bear instead of jelly!
The box can be made out of anything - paper, cardboard, tin or plastic. It needs to have a hole in it, big enough for a hand to fit through but not so large that people can see the contents. You can cut the hole out with scissors or with a template. You can cover the hole with something that stops people seeing inside, such as kitchen roll or tissue, but make sure it's soft and not too slippery or people might hurt their hands! You can also wrap the boxes in a festive theme for an extra special touch.
The rules of the game can vary and are usually based on a board or a box with numbered tiles that represent the values of two dice. Players take turns rolling the dice, "shutting" or flipping down tiles that have those numbers - for example, the 3 and 4. The player with the lowest score at the end of the round wins. This game can be a fun way to practise number skills and can incorporate Science, Art & Design and Creativity as well as Maths and Social Studies.
